The fitness industry is one of the largest industries in the world and is flooded with supplements and substances that promise to give you instant results. In one of our previous blogs, we spoke of the kind of damage that anabolic steroids do to your body and why you should avoid using them altogether. In today's blog, we thought of covering another sensitive topic i.e SARMS and the kind of damage it can do to your health and well-being.
What are SARMS?
If you haven't heard of SARMS, then you might need to check whether you've been living under a rock or not. SARMS aka Selective Androgenic Receptor Modulators are experimental drugs that were first invented to prevent muscle loss in cancer and AIDS patients. However, SARMS are illegal and banned by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency), and since they are experimental drugs that aren't fit for human consumption, their long-term side effects are not known to anyone. Some of the SARMS include drugs such as Testolone (RAD 140), Ostarine (MK2866), Andarine (S4) just to name a few.
Why were SARMS introduced:
SARMS were first introduced to help Cancer and AIDS patients and to prevent muscle wastage in them. They are supposedly not as harsh as Anabolic Steroids, but those claims are unproven. The main goal of all Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) is to boost the athlete's Testosterone levels while preventing the excess Testosterone from converting into Estrogen. SARMS claims to give users the best of Steroids, minus the side effects, or that's what users and manufacturers claim. Since SARMS aren’t declared fit for human consumption, they are still being tested in laboratories and absolutely nobody knows what kind of short and long-term effects they can have on humans.
So what's the truth behind SARMS:
While users and a few social media influencers may claim that SARMS aren't dangerous, do keep in mind that these influencers are paid a hefty sum to parrot the lines of the SARMS manufacturers. Some of the immediate, short-term side-effects of SARMS are that they suppress one's natural testosterone levels in users. Moreover, since SARMS are orally consumed, they are metabolized in the liver, which means that it places extreme stress on one's liver and can be hepatotoxic (causing irreversible damage to your liver). SARMS can also result in a loss of libido and is even known to cause infertility as well. So when you look at the overall picture, SARMS aren't all that different from Steroids, and just like other PEDs, they come with serious side effects.
We at HYP encourage all our followers to stick to a healthy training plan, diet regime, rest sufficiently and the results will follow.
